My brother has always drawn, but he is also a musician. Today he said something really interesting, every piece of paper IS a bit different, and every Rotring (pen) nib IS also different – just as every saxophone reed IS different. Very profound I thought.
We have just won First Prize !
We have a largish front garden by London standards, and are very lucky as we are right at the end of a very small cul-de-sac. There is no passing traffic so it’s very quiet and peaceful. In about May I entered the front garden for the Islington in Bloom Competition – I think the gardens were judged in July sometime and last night the Award ceremony was held – unfortunately I couldn’t go, but this morning I had an email giving me the good news.
Quinces are so delicious and so beautiful – also not easy to come by. You can make quince jelly, or Membrilo a deep red Spanish quince paste eaten with Manchego, or flavour apple pies/crumbles etc. They are also just gorgeous to look at. I am lucky to have a friend in the country with a Quince tree and she brought me these.
Spent yesterday helping to layout RWS Member’s paintings for the opening tomorrow. We lay the paintings out flat on the floor, and then start placing them. This time we were trying to hang the member’s work together – this is a good idea I think because you can then view an artist’s work easily, and compare, rather than all mixed up. I’m looking forward to seeing the show hung in place – we have an excellent team who actually put the paintings on the walls – I’m sure it will look good.
The Bankside Gallery / 48 Hopton Street / SE1 Fabulous position – right on the Thames at Bankside next door to Tate Modern – how good is that!!

It’s much harder than it looks to produce an interesting array of splashes, and spoldges. It took me all afternoon and I haven’t got very far – did enjoy it though.
My friend Gilvrie, who was also on the outing to Essex DID get the fluffy white cat on the bench – so here it is
Private View at the Bankside Gallery ( between Tate Modern & Blackfriars Station, South Entrance ). Thursday 4 October 6-8pm
Do come along

Really lovely day out with Islington Gardeners to Essex. Feeringbury Manor first, then Marks Hall. Beautiful weather, gardens looking great, coffee, tea and cake available (very important). Everyone very happy and having a good time.
