Watercolour Etc continued……

Well I did have 3 paintings ready – but all artists out there will know how you look at something you think is finished and then you get that little nagging voice in your head saying ‘bit boring/not quite right/do you really want that on a wall’ and then the irresistible urge to pick up a brush and MAKE it work comes on too strong and you HAVE to do something! Sometimes it’s OK and sometimes it isn’t. We’ll see…….

Meanwhile Canns Down Press have produced a new card from one of my paintings ‘Cornflowers in Craigie Mug’. Craigie Aitchison is one of my favourite artists – and the RA shop had this mug for sale a few years ago.Cornflowers in Craigie Mug

My doll’s house & it’s inhabitants

When I was a child in the 50’s I had a doll’s house inhabited by my made up family – the Pobblejoys. I think I might have been a bit influenced here by Edward Lear and ‘The Pobble who had no toes’ – anyway that’s what I called the family that lived in the house. It was a cupboard – my Dad put in some room divisions for me – it had 3 stories, but no staircase – that didn’t matter. The bottom story was of course the kitchen etc, next was the drawing room and above that the bedroom and nursery. They were quite a posh family with cook, maid, nanny, governess etc – largely due to the available little dolls which I bought with pocket money from Hamleys in Regent Street.

I’ve always been fascinated by small houses and their furniture and inhabitants – anyone read The Borrowers? They are real as far as I’m concerned.

The Pobblejoys were lost for several decades – but not forgotten – and now have been rediscovered by my sister in Yorkshire. Here they are – amazing!

At the Marquee Club

One of my friends was obsessed with Jimi Hendrix – he made screen prints of him endlessly. One day we went to the Marquee Club to see Jimi paying. I don’t seem to have been that impressed. I do sound a little prude – guess Jimi Hendrix at The MarqueeGeorgie Fame was more my style. And I couldn’t spell his name. We stood right in front of him so I guess it was quite strong stuff.
