Nice surprise to find I sold one of my paintings in the show ‘Summer Souvenirs’

Easy to tidy up – just moved everything into one big pile instead of small ones.
Now I have a clear table to work on.
How difficult can it be to produce 4 paintings for a project? Pretty, pretty, pretty hard as Larry David would most likely say if he were here, which of course he isn’t although I could certainly do with a bit of assistance – not that he’d be very helpful…….although he is funny. However I digress – my room always looks like this after a few days of work I am being slowly edged off any work space by paint / paper / brushes / pencils / pens…….. I’ll be pushed along until I only have a couple of inches of space and it’ll end up with all the tubes of paint and brushes becoming animated like the Sorcerer’s Apprentice scene flying around and attacking me for not treating them properly and putting their tops back on and leaving brushes in water and all the other things I didn’t oughter!
In the Autumn there will be an exhibition at Bankside Gallery to celebrate 210 years of the RWS and the RHS, (both founded in 1804).
On Tuesday evening I went along to Piers Feetham Gallery, Fulham Road for the PV of an exhibition and book launch. The book is by Charles Williams RWS NEAC. It is full of down to earth, sensible advice by someone who knows what they are talking about! It is very well illustrated with photos and diagrams as well as Charles’s paintings and some well chosen artists – Paul Newland, Julie Held, David Parfitt, Anna Gardiner, Stephen Moriarty, Iain Nicholls and Kate Wilson. Very different from the usual works you see in ‘how to do it’ books.
While on the subject of books ‘Watercolour Secrets’ also has work by Paul Newland, Julie Held and Charles Williams, as well as other members of the RWS.
Both books are available from the Bankside Gallery shop.
There is a very interesting exhibition ‘Peggy Angus – Designer, Teacher, Painter’ on until 21 September.
Peggy knew all the interesting artists / designers / architects – first meeting Edward Bawden, Eric Ravilious at the RCA. She provided a sort of artistic powerhouse at Furlongs on the Sussex Downs, which although had no mod cons they all had creative, jolly and naughty times there. Many of Ravilious’s magical landscapes were made there.
There is a short film in the exhibition of Peggy who remained artistically active all her life – what she has to say about women and art / teaching / friends / life is quite fascinating.
James Russell has written a very good book about Peggy so I can now add her to my list of heros! I read it on a very delayed train journey back from Eastbourne and hardly noticed the heat/huge amount of people and generally unpleasant conditions.
Had fun on Tuesday at the Bankside Gallery helping to layout the new show ‘Off the Wall’. This is a joint selling exhibition of paintings by Royal Watercolour Society members and the RE (Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers).
25 July – 7 September 11-6 Open Daily Bankside Gallery is to the right of Tate Modern, on the river very near excellent pub The Founders Arms.
I was rewarded for my hard work on Tuesday by someone buying one of my paintings from the Browser ( unframed work ). A man
of taste and discernment of course!
