Children’s Books

It’s not surprising that brought up on books like this ‘The Wally Pug of Why’ my siblings and I have vivid imaginations. I have the book – it belonged to my grandmother Nancy Goulden and was published by C. Arthur Pearson of Henrietta Street WC. My sister and I ( of course many years later and not together) also worked in publishing in Henrietta Street. I specially like below – not sure why the crocodile has a bandaged eye, but he is very kindly wheeling a weak cup of tea in a perambulator….. how am I still a sane person?

  1. Those illustrations look amazing! Trinity College Dublin has a copy so I might have to hunt it down. That crocodile demands to be seen with my own eyes! Thanks for posting the pictures, Em.
