Reasons to be cheerful!

Sold a painting last week – that’s always cheering …..IMG_0706

….and I will be showing paintings in January at The Curwen Gallery,London as part of a 4 person show. One of the other artists is Glynn Boyd Harte, sadly died young but did the most lovely work and I’m thrilled to be there with him.

Things that happened

Firstly was in TK Max with friend looking around – didn’t have my glasses on – found a new wallet & bag ,thought Annie was just there so whizzed over with explanation about how I was going to buy etc….a total stranger, possibly tourist without much English was the rather shocked recipient of my stream of babble.

OK so sort of recovered from that when the next day Mr P left the building – I was up about 52 stairs when the doorbell went – thought it was him having forgotten key so off I went downstairs – nearly at front door when a prolonged ring occurred – screaming ‘I’m coming as fast as I can’ ( hmmm) thinking it was him, opened front door to person who only wanted to read meter. Had to apologise profusely saying total mistake, thought it was my husband I was screaming at.

Trying to Keep Up

Went to a talk about ‘art’ at a revered institution/gallery last night.Wonderful material for a R4 play – maybe I’ll write it one day. A perfect cast of 4 characters – Swiss Museum Curator (male, curly hair/long scarf/good but strong Swiss/German accent), English Eccentric Artist (woman/arty hair/quite tall), Excellent hair belonging to glam. woman expert on Ai Wei Wei with lovely lyrical Irish voice, and slightly tortured interesting thin American with a voice like John Malkovitch (had to interrupt Mr P watching rugger to find that name) Phew!

V.interesting discussion with many words like Iconoclast (must look that up).

Had a delicious cocktail before the talk, think it was called ‘An Amusing Evening at the Royal Academy’?

Pop Art

Art StudentRecently discovered these – (1963) heavily influenced by Peter Blake who I had seen in’Pop Goes the Easel’ this was a project set by one of the tutors at Colchester School of Art.I think it represents my journey from home to the art school.  We had the targets around the house for Dad teaching my brothers to shoot. I was pretty excited about this at the time! Photograph most likely by David Winthrop.

Work in progress – ha!

Very difficult to get going – but needs to be done! One at a time – small steps. Now I’m going to watch ‘What do Artists do all day’ – a TV programme most likely thought up by a man (sorry).IMG_0731 IMG_0747

Nancy and Bill

IMG_0739IMG_0754IMG_0743

Here are Nancy & Bill on one of their annual skiing holidays to Lenzerheide in the late 40’s/50’s.

The dogs are General (Pekinese) and Skippy (Jack Russell) who had puppies with smooth coats, one brown & white and one brown, but with flat Peke faces. They were called Parker & Brown.

More of all this later…….
