Tidying Up the Studio

Spent all day tidying and getting rid of stuff – then I painted my table and now I have SURFACES darling ‘ as Edwina said in AbFab’.

Hardly dare to put a piece of paper down – it’s so TIDY

When we were very Young ( AA Milne with thanks )

The past is another country, literally in my case – 3 battered photos from then.

Passport photo with my Dad – not looking happy

Children’s party on the Queen Mary, November 1948 – hated children’s parties

Bit better 1950 – with my Mum, Aunt and brother

My Mother – the Icon

My Mother - the Icon

My Mother as visualised by one of her grandchildren,Felix Garside – the next generation of artists in the family. Bottles of Gin and Cinzano glow from the image and her rollers resemble a saintly halo or maybe a laurel wreath. What more can I add to this extraordinary iconic image except to say you saw it first on his aunt’s blog – when he’s famous remember that!

20/21 Art Fair at the Royal College of Art, London

Coffee at Patisserie Valerie then a walk across Hyde Park to the Royal College of Art. No sooner had we arrived when the fire alarm went off and we had to leave the building – gallery people/artists and buyers out in the street. After 10 minutes or so back we went and saw some things I really liked – Francis Davison, Winifred Nicholson, a lovely tiny Craigie Aitchison, works on paper at Neil Jennings Fine Art and Charles Jamieson at Duncan Miller.

Photographing paintings

Here I am demonstrating new camera!

On behalf of the RWS off we went this morning to take some pictures of paintings. We all agreed painting is hard enough – then there’s the framing / taking good enough digital images / delivering etc etc. I’m the most non technical person  EVER and my brain does struggle over it. Hope I’ve cracked it this time!

Painting

If I put these two paintings here it might stop me tinkering about with them and overdoing them so that they end up painted to death. I’m not trying to reproduce reality – paintings should have their own life.

A few days in Cornwall

Just spent a few days in Cornwall – West Penwith. The weather was warm and wet! Saturday evening was beautiful, lovely sky and sea. We had a delicious supper at the Alba in St Ives and saw lots of old friends.
