A view out of a window into ‘outside’ is a classic artist’s story.
I didn’t know this when I looked out of my bedroom window in the Lake District aged 17
and this was the result.
Perhaps this is one of the roles an artist fulfils – to look out and describe what you see beyond – this is a repeated motif for many of us – more of my paintings –
We can’t escape where we start from, but that’s OK.
Hellebores are flowering in the garden, Lenten Roses seems a more attractive name even if it isn’t Lent yet. Here is my take on them this week.
Opened yesterday at The Curwen Gallery, 34 Windmill Street, London W1T 2JR.
I am one of 4 artists showing – the others are Jane Corsellis, Mark Ward and Glynn Boyd Harte, which is very nice as our work is all different and it shares the responsibility. It was very good to see my paintings removed from their home environment and hung together but also with space round them.
The exhibition is on until 24 January, so do go and have a look if you’re in the area.
Alstromeria or Peruvian Lillies in a jug I found in a charity shop in Cally Road. This painting will be on show at The Curwen Gallery next week
Here is another painting for the Curwen Gallery exhibition ‘Still Lifes’ – this one is Lillies & China Cat.
