Tunnel Vision

I have had a ridiculous week – trying to make paintings look as if they have just happened with no effort or stress, trying to make them look laid back and chilled out, while all the time it’s been lighter, darker, more colour, less colour, getting things wrong in the right way – have at last called a halt to this ridiculous behaviour and will try to do better in future………IMG_5365 IMG_5367

Lavender and Daisies

Image

Canns Down Press have just produced this card from one of my paintings – I have a willow pattern jug that I often use in my paintings – but I changed the pattern and the mug was inspired (if that’s the right word) by the Wilton Tryptych in the National Gallery.

Watercolour Secrets

Published June 19 2014 – Bloomsbury Academic

Can’t recommend this book enough obviously! But if you’re interested in how art gets made this is good.

Being good on Friday

OK – bought 2 rather nice Hot Cross Buns – they weren’t hot but Euphorium did offer to heat them.

They had icing crosses rather than the traditional – not sure how that is done. Shops all open – bit surprised, but that was good.

Have been meaning to paint floor for about a year, so finally managed it – Farrow & Ball floor paint really good – you can wash the brushes in soap and water – fantastic! Paints I have used before are sticky and smell and you have to clean brushes in turps.

Cooked risotto, that was nice, then went up road to feed George ( cat) who was really pleased to see me as I was going to feed him – just the same as anyone else really except he didn’t complain, so that was also good.

RWS Family Fun Day at Bankside Gallery

On Wednesday RWS artists were at Bankside Gallery for a free drop in painting/drawing day.

Exhausting but fun and very rewarding when the results are so good. Everyone looks proud and happy with their work – sometimes the concentration in the gallery was so intense you could have heard a pin drop! Good day all round – thank you to everyone who dropped in and had a go.

New Work

I have not been past the front door for 3 days! From tomorrow I know I won’t get any time to produce any new work so have tried to make the most of the weekend. I have managed to finish 2 paintings for an exhibition soon to be held at The Russell Gallery, Putney.

It’ll be Friday before I can begin something new, so just tidy up a bit, do some cleaning and move on!ImageImage

What do artists do all day?

Think I’ve seen that there’s a television programme with this title.

What most artists would like to do all day is to produce art – me too!

What I have done so far today is deliver paintings for an exhibition / respond to various enquiries about paintings by email / learn a bit more about how to work my new phone / spend an hour with a very nice woman at Canon support who helped me out – printer was stubbornly refusing to print A5 it kept telling me it was my fault. Sorted that out now I hope. Hopefully I can now print the A5 thing I need to get done and it’s 16.30.

Did manage to do a few quick scribbles in a garden on Saturday!

” Another Op’nin’, Another Show “

I love Musicals and today this title from a Cole Porter song popped into my head as tonight the RWS will be having ‘Another Op’nin’ for our Spring Exhibition.

It’s not so dissimilar to a musical – it is a performance, every artist puts their work up there for a mixed bag of comments or no comments – the work has taken hours and hours of blood, sweat and tears and then it happens and that’s it. All you can do is the best you can and move on – in the words of Irving Berlin – ‘Let’s go on with the show!’

Spring Exhibition from today until 26 April.

PV 6-8 today at Bankside Gallery, near Tate ModernArtist's flowers
